Willow Rosenburg AKA Alyson Hannigan

alyopening1.jpg

We first meet Willow Rosenberg in Welcome to the Hellmouth, Season One. She is talking to her best friend and secret passion Xander Harris. Judging from Xander's reaction, she is incredibly brilliant, especially in math. He is asking for her help on an assignment. Willow shows disappointment on her face because she thinks Xander will always see her as his best friend and tutor. This is the same day in which she meets Buffy Summers. Buffy is walking down the hall with, Cordelia Chase, one of her and Xander's tormentors since they were small children. Cordelia humiliates her by making fun of her clothes her mother picks out and pointing out how guys are not attracted to her. Buffy has a look of sympathy on her face but keeps talking with Cordelia. Later on that day, Buffy asks Willow is she can sit down with her, and amazingly enough, Willow asks Buffy if she has to move. Buffy says no, of course and asks if Willow can catch her up on schoolwork. Willow hesitates because she thinks she is one of Cordelia's Cordettes but agrees. That same evening, Buffy sees Willow again at, The Bronze, a local hangout and drops some Buffy Philosophy on her. She ends up taking a walk with a vampire named Thomas and almost gets killed. This is how Willow finds out Buffy is the vampire slayer. Willow, Xander and Buffy go to the library where Giles is waiting, and this is how it all begins. We are told Willow is an outstanding computer hacker who is occasionally "naughty." Willow helps Giles and Buffy find out about The Harvest, and the four of them combined stop it. In the next episode, The Witch, Willow comes up with the name "The Slayerettes." Later on down the line, they call themselves "The Scooby Gang." Unfortunately, in "I Robot, YouJane" Willow learns how dangerous relationships on-line can be.

Willow believes she is communicating with Malcolm, but he is really, Moloch, a demon accidentally scanned into the net. In "Prophecy Girl," it is Willow's fears that convince Buffy to fight the Master and put an end to vampire murders dangerously close to home. In Season Two, Willow is still shy and pining away for Xander. Although in Season Two's opener, "When She Was Bad" Xander starts to show an interest in Willow when he licks the ice cream off of her nose. As soon as Buffy returns from visiting her father for the summer, he redirects his interest back to Buffy. Willow even tries to recreate the moment, but Xander ignores it. Early in season two Willow gets noticed by a guitar player named Oz in "Inca Mummy Girl." He spends some of the season admiring Willow from afar, however, in "What's My Line Part I" he and Willow both are being recruited by a big time computer software company. He finally speaks his first words to her. A conversation about monkeys wearing pants turns her on to Oz, and the fact that he saves her life doesn't hurt either in "What's My Line Part 2." Oz is brilliant, but he has no ambition other than playing the guitar for Dingoes At My Baby and ends up having to repeat his senior year. Later on he asks Willow out on a date, and he discovers there are vampires and Buffy is the vampire slayer. Willow's fate with men crumbles when she catches Xander and their worst enemy, Cordelia, kissing. "Surprise" and "Innocence." Oz has a secret too. He is a werewolf and almost eats Willow in "Phases." His being a werewolf does not interfere with their relationship until later on down the line. By the middle of Season Two, Willow starts to come into her own. After Angel, Buffy's vampire boyfriend, reverts to evil Angelus and kills Giles' true love Jenny Calendar, she develops a liking of the black arts and takes over Miss Calendar's computer class. In the season finale, Becoming part 1 and 2, Willow restores Angel's soul seconds too late causing Buffy to leave town in hopes of forgetting about slayer. In the third season opener, "Anne," Buffy is still missing, and Willow and The Scooby Gang are doing their best to keep the vampire population under control. Willow is definitely more confident as she takes over the role of the slayer. She has cut her hair and dresses a little less nerdy. Her and Oz are still a couple, but in 'Homecoming" Willow and Xander share their first passionate kiss. The next few episodes they can not keep their hands off of each other even though they have significant others. In "Lover's Walk," Oz and Cordelia catch them in the act, and she and Xander are single again. They decide its best to stay friends and not let anything get in the way of it.

Oz eventually forgivers her in "Amends." Also, in this ep, we learn Willow is Jewish. In "Bad Girls" and "Consequences" Willow starts to question her friendship with Buffy when Buffy and Faith start bonding more and more, and Buffy is being tempted to the dark side by Faith, who later becomes a rogue slayer. Willow finds the strength to confront Buffy about her behavior, and their friendship begins to get back on track. Willow does not even know what is inside herself when her evil twin, Vamp Willow, is accidentally released from Bizarro Sunnydale during a spell with Anya in "Dopplegangland." Vamp Willow is obviously bisexual and wears a lot of leather. Vamp Willow wreaks havoc until Willow, posing as Vamp Willow, and the gang send Vamp Willow back to her world just in time to be staked by Oz. I want to make a point here. When vampires take your body, they do not take your should. There is nothing they can put in you that wasn't already there to begin with. They bring your suppressed evils and other things that are hidden to light. Vamp Willow means that Willow has the ability to be attracted to members of the same sex which we will seen in season four. As Willow approaches graduation day, she has a lot of choices to make. She has been accepted to every prestigious college known to man, and she has to make a decision. After she is captured by the mayor and Faith in 'Choices," she decides she wants to stay in Sunnydale to fight evil and become a "Bad Ass Wicca." In "Graduation Day Part 1" oz becomes her first. And as we see later, she regrets the decision. In Season four, a lot of things change for Willow. She is entering college where computer nerds are a dime a dozen. It is her place where she does not have to worry about being an outcast because she is so brilliant. Buffy is the opposite and feels shy and withdrawn at first and follows Willows lead. Willow is doing fine until her fate with men crumbles even worse. Oz cheaters on her TWICE in "Wild at Heart" with a female werewolf named Veruca. The first time was an accident, but the second time, Oz invites Veruca to his cage claiming he did not want her to hurt anyone. He knows he and Veruca have mated and knows what will happen if the two of them are together (Bastard)!! Luckily, Willow catches him and fusses him out. Willow is extremely upset, and we all hurt for her. She almost steps into the path of an oncoming car. Fortunately, Riley was there to save her because Buffy is too far away. Oz leaves town trying to find a solution to his problem leaving Willow angry and depressed. In "Something Blue," Willow, still hurting over Oz, casts a spell to have her will be done making Xander a demon magnet, Giles blind and Buffy and Spike engaged. Yuck!!

After Willow is asked to become a vengeance demon, she decides she must move on. And move on she does, because in "Hush" she becomes attracted to a shy, blonde witch Tara. They were both members of a campus Wicca group that does not believe in magick or spells. Willow tries to voice her opinion about this issue, but the other members make fun of her. Tara tries to back her up but is extremely shy. This does not go unnoticed by Willow though, and they meet each other's eyes for the first time. While under attack by the voice stealing gentlemen, Tara and Willow have an intimate meeting of the hands and minds to barricade a soda machine against the door. They both look down at their enjoined hands, and both feel something. What is going through their minds and what happens after their voices where returned? The viewers can only speculate. The next day, Willow leans Tara has been practicing magick all of her life because her mother WAS very powerful. Tara compliments a modest Willow on her power and tells Willow she is special, and she is not talking about her magick. Willow smiles at the compliment, and she is happier than she's been in weeks. Tara is a Godsend, and this is just the beginning. Over the next couple of weeks, Willow and Tara grow closer. They attempt floating a rose and then plucking the petals off. The floating goes fine, but when they comes for the petals, something goes wrong, and it flies all around the room narrowly missing the two witches in "A New Man." In "The I in Team," Willow is feeling left out because she is the only member of The Scooby Gang without a significant other. Tara and Willow meet again in a student lounge, and Tara tries to give Willow a doll's eye crystal that belonged to her grandmother. Willow refuses the crystal at first. After Buffy bails on the gang at The Bronze, Willow feels lonely and goes directly to Tara's. Willow apologizes and flirts with her a little until Tara eagerly lets her in. Willow stays with her all night and brings the doll's eye crystal back to her dorm room. What happens between them? We can only speculate. Not long after this, Tara sabotages one of Willow's spells, and we do not find out why until season five. Willow continues to spend all hr free time with Tara even recruiting her help to find the newly awaken Faith. By then, all that we know is Willow and Tara are very close. However, in "Who Are You?", we get a glimpse at how close they really are. Tara is wondering why Willow has not introduced her to her friends. Willow babbles that she does not want to share her with anyone. Tara is pleased with the response and tells her that she is hers in any way she chooses. This is the first time Tara has really expressed her feelings to Willow. She probably is not sure if Willow likes her in a friend way or a girlfriend way. She does not make any passes at Willow until she knows how Willow feels. During the next few episodes, Willow and Tara continue to grow closer through magic and "dates." Suddenly, their relationship hits a snag. Oz returns ready to reclaim Willow as his own, but there is a problem. Willow is involved with Tara.

When Oz senses this, he wolfs out and tries to kill Tara in "New Moon Rising." Oz is captured by the Initiative, and Tara runs to tell Willow insuring the safety of her rival. The gang rescues Oz from the initiative, and Willow says good-bye to Oz again because she is happy with Tara. Oz realizes he is not as in control of the wolf as he thinks because Willow will probably make him angry again. Also, what if another female werewolf comes along? Animal instinct always wins out. Tara is sitting in the dark due to a power outage not mentioned in this summary. She hears a knock at the door and sees Willow standing in the hall looking guilty holding a candle. Tara lets her in and waits for a brush off that never comes. It implies Willow and Tara make love for the first time. Judging by Tara's reaction, this was her first time ever. As the season winds down, Willow and Tara enjoy the pleasures of couplehood. In the season finale "Restless," Willow's dream about Tara suggests Willow feels safe in Tara's room because she is free from her doubts and insecurities. Tara makes her feel confident and complete. In season Five, Willow and Tara are as solid as ever, but they do run into some complications. Tara still feels like an outsider although she hangs out and helps on several occasions. Also, Willow's girlfriend has a secret. In "Family," Tara's so called family comes to visit her on her birthday threatening to reveal a family secret. She has believed she is part demon her whole life and casts a spell on the entire Scooby gang to keep them from finding out. The spell back fires and keeps them from seeing all demons. They are unable to see the demons sent by Glory to destroy Buffy. However, when Tara returns to the Magic Box to clear the air with her friends, everyone is able to see Tara confirming she is not a demon. Tara breaks the spell, and Buffy kills the rest of the demons. Of course, her father would pic this time to come in and lord it over his daughter and reveal the women in their family supposedly have demon in the. Willow and the Scooby gang stand by Tara's side even before it is confirmed for once and for all she is not a "Disgusting demon" With a little help from Anya and Spike, her family is convinced as well. Then, she has the best birthday she has ever had courtesy of Willow. It is obvious in this ep that Tara is abused mentally, maybe even physically by her father and brother. I am sure her mother goes through the same thing. It makes you wonder how Tara's mother and father ever got together. Apparently, her father has a serious problem with magic. As the season progresses, Willow and Tara continue to have a rock solid relationship, and Tara continues to feel more and more comfortable around the Scoobies. She even tries to talk naughty and crack jokes. We see how Willow depends on Tara's strength in "The Body." (We see a peek of this in "Restless") Willow is extremely upset about Joyce's death and is not sure how to deal. Tara is right there with her to comfort her with a kiss. Willow has always been the rock of the Scooby gang, but now she has her own personal rock in Tara. She breaks down in front of Tara, but calms herself in the presence of the Scooby gang members. The rest o f season five will show us how Willow will turn out and if her relationship with Tara will stay intact.
